"Charged Again With Barely Any Warning"
I only signed up to try it out for a short time and forgot it would renew. Next thing I know, there’s another charge on my card. What a joke. I don’t remember getting any clear reminder before it happened, and cancelling was way more annoying than it needed to be. Customer service wasn’t much help either. It really feels like they’re banking on people missing the renewal date

"Bad first impression with inaccurate profiles"
This gave me a bad first impression right away. The profiles weren’t accurate at all, and the information I saw was just completely wrong. I expected it to be at least somewhat reliable, but it really missed the mark.

"Too Many Dead Profiles"
I reached out to several sitters and didn’t hear back from any of them. A lot of the profiles looked outdated or not even real, which made it hard to trust the site. After a while, I just felt like I was wasting my time.

"I don’t really feel sure my info is safe"
I signed up thinking it would be straightforward, but it asked for a lot more personal info than I expected. Not long after, I started getting random messages, which may or may not be connected, but it definitely made me uncomfortable. The privacy settings also aren’t super clear, at least not to me. I deleted a few things, but I still can’t really tell what they keep or what’s actually removed. Maybe it’s fine, but it doesn’t feel great.

"The service was fine overall, but..."
The service was fine overall, but the booking times weren’t very flexible, it made planning around my schedule more annoying than it needed to be

"Frustrating to use on my phone"
I tried using the site on my phone and got frustrated. It loaded slowly, and the filters kept resetting, so I had to keep starting over while looking for sitters. I’m careful with my time and don’t want to risk missing something important when choosing someone, so the whole process felt more annoying than it should have

"Finally found the right care!!!"
It took a few tries to get things sorted out, but it ended up working okay for me!!! Not perfect at first, but I got there eventually!!!

"Refund is taking forever"
I don’t remember the exact day I requested it, but I definitely remember being told the refund was coming. Still haven’t seen anything, and at this point it feels like it’s taking way too long.

"I signed up hoping to find..."
I signed up hoping to find a regular sitter job, but most of the messages I got seemed super sketchy. People wanted me to text them off the site right away, offered weird checks, or promised pay that sounded way too good to be true. I reported a couple of them, but it didn’t feel like anything actually happened. It was really frustrating because I spent all this time and energy sorting through junk instead of real job leads. Sittercity should be catching this stuff before it even gets to users. It made the whole site feel unsafe and definitely not worth paying for.

"Last-minute cancellations made it hard to trust"
I had two sitters cancel in the same week, and then another one just didn’t show up at all. After dealing with that, it’s hard not to feel like reliability is an issue on the site in general. Maybe I just had bad luck, but it left me hesitant to use it again.

"Caregiver experience was a bit hard to gauge"
I had mixed feelings about the caregiver experience. On one hand, things seemed okay overall, but I didn’t feel like the qualifications were explained very clearly. I would’ve felt more comfortable if there had been more specific details about their background and experience

"Wish I’d Tried It Sooner"
I used Sittercity after looking through a few sitter profiles, reviews, and references, i regret waiting as long as I did. Seeing real feedback from other families made me feel a lot more comfortable before reaching out to anyone.

We found a sitter quickly, and she ended up being great with my kids. The site wasn’t perfect, but it was easy enough to use and got the job done. I’d definitely use it again

"I entered basic stuff like my hours, location..."
I entered basic stuff like my hours, location, and the kind of experience I needed, but the matches were way off. A lot of people were too far away or couldn’t work with my schedule at all. It felt like I was just digging through random profiles instead of getting actual matches. This should’ve been a simple thing, but it ended up being more hassle than it was worth

"I just didn’t feel comfortable with it"
I gave Sittercity a try, but i never really felt fully at ease using it. Maybe it was just my own read on the situation, but the profiles didn’t give me enough confidence, and I didn’t feel like there were clear enough checks or support in place. After a while, I decided it wasn’t something I felt safe relying on, so I stopped using it

"I tried using the background check..."
I tried using the background check expecting it to give me some peace of mind, but it ended up missing things I thought should have shown up. After that, I had a hard time trusting the results. It just didn’t feel as useful or reliable as I hoped it would be

"Not many sitters near me"
I was hoping this would make finding a sitter a little easier, but there just weren’t many people available in my area when I actually needed help. Maybe it’s just where I live, because even getting food delivered around here can be a whole thing sometimes. Anyway, I checked a few times and didn’t have much luck, so it ended up being more frustrating than useful for me.

"Not Worth the Time or Energy"
I really wanted sittercity to work out, but my experience was frustrating. The two sitters I talked to seemed nice at first, so I spent time messaging, scheduling, and trying to set everything up, only for one of them to completely no-show.
The other sitter did show up, but barely paid attention to my kid and was just sitting on her phone most of the time. I reported it, but sittercity didn’t do much to help, which made the whole thing feel like a waste of energy. I won’t be using it again.

"Account setup was more annoying than it should’ve been"
Getting the account set up was technically fine, but the whole process was way more irritating than I expected. Posting a job felt confusing, took forever, and it seemed like there were all these little policy loopholes or vague rules you only figure out after you’ve already wasted time. It wasn’t a total disaster, but it definitely wasn’t smooth.

"The app keeps freezing, and it’s frustrating"
I’ve been using the app for a while, but lately it keeps freezing on me and running really slow most days. It’s a bit frustrating because I expect it to work more smoothly, but right now it feels buggy and unreliable.

"I was hoping to find a few..."
I was hoping to find a few local sitters, but there just didn’t seem to be many listed near me. Maybe it depends on the area, but I had a hard time finding options close by.

Sittercity Q&A

Have any of you ever received a refund?

LeslieKennedy
August 03, 2020

“No, Sittercity's policy is to never offer refunds for any reason. I have it in writing from their customer service department. I have filed a complaint with two BBBs (my state's and theirs in Chicago, IL) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). It is important for everyone who has been victimized to do the same. Use your voice and stand up to frauds. Don't let them get away with it anymore. If not for yourself, do it for the next unsuspecting consumer. Please! The FTC encourages consumers to file a complaint if they have been a victim of fraud, identity theft, or other unfair or deceptive business practices. Complaints can be filed online or by calling the FTC's Consumer Response Center at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357). To report fraud, identity theft, or an unfair business practice, visit ftc.gov/complaint, click on the FTC Complaint Assistant icon, and answer the questions. BBB, Chicago IL Address: 330 N Wabash Ave #3120, Chicago, IL 60611 Phone: (312) 832-0500 Also, file a complaint with the BBB in your state. To file a complaint with the Consumer Fraud Unit in Chicago, IL, contact them by telephone at (312) 603-8700 during regular business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. “I have recently lodged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Chicago. I strongly advise you to do the same, as this situation has the potential to evolve into a class action lawsuit. It is unacceptable for them to engage in such behavior.”

How trustworthy is a client who offers a job via email without having any prior conversation or meeting with you? They are impressed with your profile and want to extend a job offer without meeting you in person. I understand that communication nowadays mostly happens through email and text, but it feels somewhat suspicious to rely on someone to take care of your children and be in your home without meeting them beforehand.

“I would strongly advise exercising caution if you haven't had the chance to meet the family in person or if you're considering connecting with a family online or through Craigslist. It is highly recommended to seek employment through a trustworthy agency that is familiar with the clients, possesses their information, and keeps their credit card details on record. Unfortunately, there are numerous fraudulent schemes circulating, so it's crucial to be vigilant.”

What level is the background check you complete? Is it comparable to the background check conducted on teachers, nurses, or anyone who interacts with children?

Violet.Dean

“I wonder if they actually conduct the background check. It's likely just another way to profit from people.”

Why is a 12 year old allowed to babysit on Sittercity? Sittercity and Care.com both clearly stated they are not responsible for the safety of parents, caregivers or children. Why are parents allowed to give permission to minors by checking off a box on the website? That is irresponsible on so many level and borders on neglect and very bad parenting. No background checks are provided on parents or even a last name to caregivers when booking a babysitting job. The whole system is set up to protect the families and children to be babysat not the caregivers. I am hoping the parent of the 12 year old above that gave the 5-star review on this page went along with the 12 year old to babysit. However, according to customer service when I called it is not required for a parent to accompany a minor to babysit and the there is no age limit in place although most states have 12 yr old limit to babysit and each state has varying ages of babies and amounts of kids that a minor can watch. NO limits or details about this is provided from Sittercity or Care.com. This is so irressponsible on so many levels. Many parents as we all know, do not have any sense and will send minors out to babysit at a strangers home off the net. Dangerous, irresponsible and unethical. Just begging for a lawsuit.

Is canceling the sitter subscription service a straightforward process, or are they one of those companies that continue to charge you without your consent?

“They just won't stop charging me! The customer service is absolutely useless.”

“It's definitely not easy, and what's worse is that they keep charging you even after you've made several attempts to cancel the service and stop the billing. This kind of behavior should be considered a criminal offense.”

“As a native speaker, it is your responsibility to cancel your membership on both Sittercity and Care.com, as well as any dating or social sites with membership fees. Regardless of whether you signed up for a one-month, three-month, or one-year membership, these types of memberships will automatically renew unless you personally call the company to cancel. Simply going on the website and canceling the membership may not always work. If you read reviews on other platforms like Care.com and Match.com, you will find numerous complaints from people who were billed on their credit cards even after canceling online. However, many people may claim they forgot to cancel in order to try and get a refund. Additionally, starting this year, most states have implemented a new law regarding auto-renew billing. When you cancel a credit card, your bank or credit card company will contact the companies that have auto-renew billing, such as Comcast, phone companies, electric companies, gym memberships, and possibly internet auto-renew billing, to provide them with your new credit card information as a service. This ensures that your auto-renew services are not interrupted. Therefore, the days of getting rid of a bill by canceling a credit card are gone. If you contact your credit card company and request this service to stop, they should be able to assist you, although I cannot guarantee it.”
